You don’t have to go through difficult times alone.
Being a teenager (or a parent of a teen) can be hard.

- Feeling overwhelmed about your feelings
- Find it hard to make friends
- Want to understand who you are & feel good about yourself
- Moving on from a scary or stressful experience
Maybe you’re a parent of a teen and you notice your child is:
Not acting like themselves -more tired, irritable, or tearful
Having a hard time managing school, activities, & friends
Worrying a lot about the past or their future
Struggling to handle their emotions
Needing support to make it through a difficult moment in life
You’re in the right place
Therapy for Teens
Does it feel like everyone has it together?
Being a teenager can be hard enough. For many teens, managing full-time school can already feel stressful. Let alone adding friends, family, or activities on the side.
Sometimes we can feel incredibly behind, as if the overwhelm is growing and we don't have a way out. Feeling anxious or overwhelmed can be isolating.
Sometimes we stop answering our phones, forget to turn in homework, distance ourselves, or commit to everything we can and perform at a high standard even though it feels like too much.
imagine if you COULD…
find ways to manage big feelings & understand your feelings so you can feel more peace
Learn to make friends & improve your ability to show up for friends (or feel comfortable in social situations)
Find ways to be more successful at school & understand your learning style

In therapy, you get to slow everything down and uncover what really needs to happen to make you feel better.
Everybody is different and everybody has different needs, it's totally OK to take time for yourself to figure out what will work for you.
Maybe life outside of school is great, and we need to look at school accommodations for you. Or maybe you're finding friendships to be difficult and want to feel better about your social life.
Or possibly school is going good, you have great friends in your life, but you're having trouble managing big feelings. This could be feelings of anxiety, stress, or overwhelm. We can look at what feelings are at the forefront for you and find ways to bring the intensity down, so you can enjoy your young years. You deserve it!
My APPROACH to COUNSELING teens:
Uncover
First, let's find what feels stressful or overwhelming. Is the stress coming from family, friends, school, things outside of school, the past or the future? This can provide a compass for us to use.
Coping skills
Once we uncover what the stressors are, and it's OK if you don't know what the stress is we can work on this together, we will come up with skills that you can use in real life to help you get through any difficult time you encounter. That way when something stressful happens,You're not stuck in it, but you have a plan. There will always be stressors in life, but what is important is how we take care of ourselves through it.
Relationship Building
A big part of therapy is building a relationship with yourself. As humans, we have different feelings, perspectives, and values. The relationship we have with ourselves really does impact our mental health. In therapy, you'll get to learn more of who you are, how to care for yourself through difficult times, and build confidence.

Common questions about Teen Therapy
-
As a therapist what you say stays with me. The only time I may need to disclose information is if there is a safety issue. That means if you are going to hurt yourself or somebody else, I would need to make sure that you and the other person are safe.
Disclosing information for a safety issue also applies to children (those under 18), someone with disabilities, or vulnerable adults (like our elderly) who are being hurt.
Part of my job is making sure people are safe.
Other than a safety issue, what you say stays with me.

If you are 13 years or older, you get to decide how involved you want your parents or legal guardians to be in your mental health care.
Some teens like their guardians to be a part of their therapy journey. Incases like this, I respectfully work with the teen and their family to see how we can create a supportive environment for them. This can look like family therapy, meeting with parents one on one, and of course meeting with the teen regularly. In therapy, we get to decide how much interaction would be the healthiest for you.
Some teens who are 13 years and older don’t want their parents or legal guardians involved and that is okay. We honor your privacy and will find ways to support your mental health in a way that feels respectful to you. If you ever change your mind and would like your therapist to connect with your parents or guardians to work some things out, please let us know.
