Somatic therapy in Seattle and online across WA

The body just knows…

You get to connect with your body, it has been with you all along

The body stores memories and experiences. It’s not all in your head, your body has been paying attention too.

Somatic therapy may be right for you if….

  • find it hard to name your feelings

  • notice a physical reaction (heart racing, sweaty palms, shaky voice, upset stomach) when certain people, places, or events come up in your life

  • notice intense emotions after certain things happen and it’s feels hard to shake off

  • feel paralyzed or jittery in certain situations

Somatic Therapy can help you feel grounded

Somatic therapy is a way that us humans can connect with our bodies. Through this kind of therapy, we can make room for our bodies to express and transform stored emotions.

Every body has its own language, its own form of expression. Every feeling also has a home in our body. For example, some people feel their head get hot everytime they get mad. Other people notice a shaking in their stomach when they get nervous. Some feelings have multiple homes in our bodies and others show up in the same spots.

How can Somatic Therapy help?

Somatic therapy can give people the tools to manage big emotions in a way where it doesn't overwhelm the body. Sometimes we can process a traumatic or triggering experience by telling the story of what happened and yet, we still feel triggered afterwards. People are able to create a relationship with their bodies so that their body can also release and heal along with the mind. Our bodies are a part of us and our experiences.

There are certain somatic exercises that can be done to release a story, process an emotion, or bring our bodies to the present moment and out of the past.

In somatic work, we can allow your body to have a break from spending energy on suppressing a feeling or trying to manage something big. Instead, you get to spend your energy on the things that make you happy in life.

How somatic therapy works

Tune in

This is a time where you get to understand what feelings are emerging and where you're holding them in your body. This is one of the great ways to create a relationship with the physical self.

Express

Once we understand the stories and feelings that are showing up in your body, we get to find ways for you to move them through or integrate them. Sometimes expressing our feelings through body movements or sounds can feel relieving, overwhelming, new, scary, or freeing. You get to go at your own pace so that you feel safe while doing this kind of work.

Shift

As feelings, experiences, or stories are able to be expressed, people often report new perspectives and a shift in their thoughts and feelings. People often share feeling relieved and more connected to themselves.
